The largest bathing area in the Egersund area is perfect for cooling off on those hot summer days, and wonderful for hiking all year.

Art and museums

After Egersund Fayancefabrik shut down in 1979, Dalane Folkemuseum took over the factory's archives and item collections. Today, this gift constitutes the core collection at Egersund Fayancemuseum (the Egersund Pottery Museum), which was first established in 1986.

Local food

Berentsens Distillery with its Whisky Hall og Visitor Centre offers unique experiences with Norwegian whisky and other spirits.

Architecture and heritage

The site of the beautiful 17th century cruciform church, which was originally known as Heidningeholmen, has always been a sacred and important place. During the Viking age the king's Leidang ship moored here to collect taxes. The old transport routes on land and sea all led to this place. The market square, formerly known as Lahedla and Hauen, is situated in immediate proximity to the church. The church is the town's oldest remaining building. The present exterior is a result of an extensive building during the years 1785 – 1788. The interior, however, has been altered several times since then. One example is the building of galleries to accommodate the growing population. By the year 1888 it was Rogaland's next largest church with its seating capacity of 1160 seats. The church is open to visitors in the summer, no admission charge. Information about church services and other arrangements are displayed on the notice board at the entrance.

A hike along the old western main road (Gamle Vestlandske Hovedvei) is a walk through the road history.

Art and museums

Egersund Fayancemuseum conveys the history of Egersunds Fayancefabrik (1847-1979). The factory made a variety of products from clay, such as cups and vessels, vases, and ornaments. If you and your family want to make something out of clay, you can book the activity "Play with clay".

Cycling

This roundtrip is 35 km long and a bit more challenging. One of the first sections of the trip is rather steep and the total elevation is 700 metres. The route is mainly covered in asphalt but includes a minor section of gravel road.

On your own

Experience the historic town of Egersund: A cosy town filled with historic wooden houses and a beautiful centre with many restaurants, cafes and niche shops.

Cycling

This trip takes you to the beautiful Hestnes where open sea views and beautiful hiking trails are an excellent extension of a cycling trip. The stretch starts as a sidewalk along FV44 towards Sokndal.

Beaches

Vannbassengan is a great outdoor area that is popular with visitors and locals. It functions nicely both as a bathing place and hiking area.

Theatre and dramatic arts

Learn about faience and Egersunds Fayancefabrik (Egersunds Faience factory) through a guided tour at Egersund Fayancemuseum. The factory provided the Norwegian people with pottery for all occasions through its 132 years of production and was an award-winning Norwegian stoneware manufacturer.

Mountain hikes and walks

In the far south of Rogaland you will find an area with such a unique geology that we have been recognised by UNESCO. Here you walk on the same rock as on the moon; Anorthosite. Astronauts and scientists from NASA have even visited the area to prepare for taking rock samples on the moon!
