Fjaler

Fjaler offers fantastic nature and cultural experiences, with a great selection of waymarked trails and fjord and coastal experiences within easy reach.

Fjaler is situated on the southern side of the Dalsfjord and has a very diverse geography. You can travel from the fjord villages Dale and Flekke, to the salmon rivers Flekkevassdraget and Guddalsvassdraget, Guddal valley and on to the small communities along the coast in the west.

Dale is the administrative centre of Fjaler and has a good range of cafés and shops, and a motel. Nordic Artists’ Centre Dale has an imposing position above the village, while the Jakob Sande-tunet museum is located in the centre of the village.

Hellevik

In Hellevik, you can find Leonards Forlaavelse which sells snacks and is a great experience. It has a large cheese counter and home decor shop with an intimate and authentic atmosphere. There is also a grocery shop and a nice beach in Hellevik if you fancy a swim. The Nilsbua cultural monument is also worth a visit.

Tysse

The district recorder's estate Lillingstoneheimen is in Tysse, and has a beautiful private cemetery, Fredensborg, built by district recorder Nils Landmark. Jensbua Kystkultursenter coastal culture centre is situated nearby, and is the base for the Bakkejekta boat.

Flekke

The Red Cross Nordic United World College is situated on the Flekkefjord fjord arm in Flekke, and was built in connection with the Red Cross training and rehabilitation centre Hauglandssenteret. The college has a busy international environment of 200 students from around the world, a school camp, water park and conference facilities.

Korssund

Korssund is an old hostelry site in the very west of the municipality, and has a rich and interesting history. It gets its name from the four-metre stone cross erected by St. Olav in around 1030 during the Christianisation of Norway. The cross is a St. Olav cross, and one of the biggest in Norway. Korssund has a good natural harbour, and teems with boats in summer.

Fjord Coast Regional and Geopark, a UNESCO Global Geopark

Fjaler is part of the Fjord Coast Regional and Geopark, a UNESCO Global Geopark. The park stretches across dramatic fjords, open coastal landscapes and striking mountain formations on Norway’s westernmost edge.

Hellebustfossen Cabins offer rights to fish salmon in Flekkeriver and Guddalriver in Fjaler. Season from June 1st to September 1st. The hosts also offer accommodation in high standard cabins. Contact the hosts for more information and prices.
