From Jæren, in every breath of glass – a love of tradition and design. MingarWalker Glassblowing Studio is located in Jæren, south of Stavanger, and is run by Line Victorie Mingar and Benjamin Walker. Here, modern design is combined with traditional craftsmanship in the creation of hand-blown glass. At the heart of the production is “Egg”, a melting furnace that keeps the glass at a constant temperature of 1,100°C throughout the year. Together with the studio’s other furnaces, with names such as “Dragen” (the Dragon) and “Hyttenissen” (the Workshop Gnome), it plays an important role in shaping the glass. The result is glass art inspired by both the Jæren landscape and Norwegian craft traditions.

Norwegian tradition and modern knitting. Sandnes Garn has a long tradition of yarn production and offers yarn in a wide range of fibres, including Norwegian wool, merino wool, alpaca, cotton and linen. Several of its yarn qualities are made with Norwegian wool. Peer Gynt and Tynn Peer Gynt, for example, are made from 100% Norwegian wool. With a wide selection of yarns, colours and knitting patterns, Sandnes Garn carries on Norwegian knitting traditions while developing new designs and collections.

Candles, craftsmanship and Norwegian culture at Byrkjedalstunet. The candle workshop at Byrkjedalstunet combines history and craftsmanship in premises that were once home to a dairy. Here, you will find handmade candles in a variety of shapes and colours, as well as homeware, souvenirs, woollen goods and food from local producers. The candles sold at the workshop are made in Norway and decorated by hand at Byrkjedalstunet. A worthwhile stop for anyone interested in Norwegian craftsmanship and local traditions.

Helly Hansen was founded in Norway in 1877 and has a long tradition of developing clothing and equipment for work and activities at sea and in challenging weather conditions. The brand has developed waterproof and breathable materials, as well as clothing designed for outdoor use. Its Norwegian heritage remains an important part of Helly Hansen’s design, with clothing and equipment developed for use at sea, in the mountains and in changing weather conditions.

Design inspired by Preikestolen. Preikestolen Design is a Norwegian design brand inspired by Preikestolen and the surrounding fjord landscape. The brand offers jewellery and sculptures with shapes and expressions inspired by the famous rock formation. Preikestolen Design works with craftspeople in the Stavanger region on production, combining a local connection with design inspired by Norwegian nature.

Craftsmanship and screen printing in Stavanger. KANT® Butikken is located in Stavanger city centre, at the beginning of the colourful Fargegaten. Here, you will find T-shirts, clothing, hats, caps and souvenirs featuring stylish and humorous screen-printed designs. The designs are created by KANT® and screen-printed by hand in the shop itself.
